Classifying Chemical Reactions

ChemReaction1Chemical Reactions: involve the combination, separation, or rearrangement of atoms. There are different types of classifications of chemical reactions. Within each classification, there are specific types of chemical reactions.

Combination Reactions: two or more atoms are combined to form one compound.



Decomposition Reactions: one compound is broken down in two or more atoms


Exchange/Metathesis Reactions:

Single Displacement: one atom displaces another


Double Displacement: two atoms exchange places or displace one another
